Dove has subtle shades of blue-grey handprinted on an ethereal handwoven cotton silk ground. A broad storm-cloud grey panel adds grounding to this lofty quilt. Women artisans traditionally sew quilts as heirlooms in West Bengal, using the “Kantha” technique over four weeks. Carefully selected cotton thread colors give structure, rhythm, and life to the composition. A vivid flourish of peacock blue, sewn in a heavier thread, arcs in a scrolling line from one side of the quilt to the other.
