FAQ Often asked little questions

Which tray size is right for me? Start small, or go straight to the one that fits your life.: Two sizes, one decision. The Mini-Mini (8″ × 5″ × 1¼″ / 20.3 × 12.7 × 3.2 cm) is our most compact piece — perfectly proportioned for a bedside table, a desk corner, or a single espresso and a few chocolates. The Mini Color Valet (13″ × 9″ × 1¼″ / 33.0 × 22.9 × 3.2 cm) is the one that earns its place in the hallway — generous enough for keys, post, and a small collection of daily essentials, without ever feeling like it’s taking over the room. Both share the same 1¼″ depth and the same handprinted dot interior.
Are the trays waterproof? Short answer: no — wipe dry promptly: No. These trays are first finished with a satin polyurethane coating, then a food-safe oil or beeswax — not a waterproof sealant. They can handle light, incidental moisture — a condensation ring from a wine glass, for example — but should not be left in standing water, submerged, or put in the dishwasher. Prolonged exposure to moisture will eventually damage the wood. Wipe dry promptly after contact with a staining liquid.
Are the trays food safe? Yes — but use a plate!: Yes — but please don’t eat off the tray! The finish is food-safe, so the occasional cracker or olive finding its way onto the surface is perfectly fine. That said, these are serving and display trays, not plates or cutting boards. Use a bowl, a plate, or a piece of parchment between food and the surface, and your tray will stay beautiful for years to come.
Can I use the trays outside? A nice day? Sure. A storm? Hard pass.: A mild afternoon on the patio? Absolutely. These trays are happy outdoors for a few hours in calm, dry weather. What they’re not built for: rain, direct blazing sun, freezing temperatures, or being left out overnight. Wood and extreme weather are not friends. Bring it in when the party’s over, and it’ll last for years.
Are all the trays identical? No — and that’s rather the point.: Not quite — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Each tray is handprinted and handcrafted in small batches in our Gloucester studio. The ink lays a little differently each time, the wood grain has its own story, and Keith’s hands are involved at every step. The result is that no two trays are exactly alike. Slight variations in tone, pattern, and finish are not imperfections — they are the signature of something genuinely made by hand. That’s what makes yours, yours.
How do these pieces handle hot dishes or cold drinks? Cool cocktails yes — hot pans, no thank you.: A cold glass of wine or a fresh morning espresso on a mug rug fits beautifully into daily routines. However, please steer clear of placing sizzling hot pots, heavy pans, or baking dishes straight from the oven directly onto our printed tray — excessive heat will damage the custom print finish. To preserve their modern artistry, stick to cozy mugs, cool cocktails, and light room-temperature plates!
